  A bnc is an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) proxying server (bouncer) hosted on a remote linux server. It
  allows users to connect to chat servers by bouncing off the computer which is running a bnc. Basically,
  it forwards the information from the user to the server and vise versa.

• What is the purpose of a BNC
  The purpose of a bnc is to change your hostmask or ip assigned by your Internet Service Provider.
  This can prevent many ip based attacks directed at your ip by hackers this can be any form of security
  hole found by scanning your ip or hostmasking. Connecting to a bnc uses the hostmask of the linux
  server known as a virtual host or vhosts.
